TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
REHOVOT SOCIETY for the PROTECTION of ANIMALS The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) is an international animal welfare organisation with its headquarters in London. WSPA has consultative status with the United Nations and Council of Europe, it also works alongside other international bodies such as the World Health Organisation on humane stray animal and rabies programmes. Most of WSPA’s work is carried out through its 1018 animal welfare groups (Member Societies) in 159 countries making WSPA the largest animal welfare federation in the world. I recently visited the Rehovot Society for the Protection of Animals in Israel (Registered charity number 58 008- 898-7). They have been a respected Member Society of WSPA for some years now and I was most impressed with the work being carried out at their shelter. The facility works under the direction of a very dedicated and knowledgeable Manager, and the animals enjoy un-crowded facilities with much time spent ensuring they are stimulated and receiving attention and sufficient exercise. During this time, they are also being assessed as to their suitability for re- homing. They operate a discounted veterinary clinic at the shelter and strongly promote spaying and neutering of all the animals as well as those already owned. Education also features strongly in their work, which also gets into the schools as well as to visitors and potential owners who visit the shelter. I would highly recommend this group for any potential funding to assist them in improving the welfare of those animals that come into their care. Alistair M. Findlay Middle East Programmes Manager |
